If you are wanting to shoot your senior photos in the Badlands of Medora, ND but are overwhelmed on what spot to pick, here is everything you need to know about my favorite spots in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I have shot at these locations multiple times, in different seasons, and they will produce STUNNING images for you!
Wind Canyon might be the most jaw dropping spot in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. A short walk brings you to the dramatic overlook where you can see for miles over the Little Missouri River. The view at sunset at this spot is unforgettable. Be prepared to climb some steps and do a small amount of hiking for this location, but every step is worth it. Don't be hesitant to explore this location, you will find a trail that leads down the side of the canyon. The photos I have taken on this trail are my absolute favorite!
Located right along the Mah Dah Haay Trail just a short walking distance from the Little Missouri River, the Bar X Ranch is a hidden gem in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Tons of trails for riding and hiking give numerous locations perfect for senior pictures. Horses wander free around the ranch, and last time I was here there were even new babies wandering around too! This ranch offers camping and stalls for your horses. It is easily accessible for horse trailers. If you are wanting to bring your horse and make an unforgettable experience for your senior pictures, this would be my top pick!
Established in 1883, Peaceful Valley Ranch offers rich history and a beautiful panoramic view of the Badlands. Some of the remodeled buildings still stand at the ranch and there are also lots of old corral perfect for a western style senior session. The parking lost is easily accessible and has lots of room to turn around with a horse trailer. A short ride or walk brings you to the Little Missouri River with a gorgeous butte backdrop. This has been my most picked location by clients wanting pictures taken in Medora.
